Liste officielle des nouvelles extensions internet
L’ICANN a publié le mercredi 13 juin 2012 la liste des candidats aux nouvelles extensions internet (« NewgTLDs). Parmi les prétendants, il y a des noms de régions géographiques ou de villes qui ont souhaité déposé leurs extensions dites « geoTLDs ». Elles représentent 3,4 % des demandes soumises à l’ICANN.
En France, les projets géographiques concernent les régions Alsace (.ALSACE), Aquitaine (.AQUITAINE), Bretagne (.BZH), Corse (.CORSICA) ainsi que la ville de Paris (.PARIS).
Dans le reste du monde, il y a de grandes zones géographiques comme le .AFRICA. Les régions sont également nombreuses à candidater : .BAYERN, .CATALONIA, .SCOT, .WALES.
Les villes sont majoritaires avec les .AMSTERDAM , .BARCELONA, .BERLIN, .BRUSSELS, .BUDAPEST, .COLOGNE, .DUBAI, .HELSINKI, .ISTANBUL, .LONDON, .MADRID, .MELBOURNE, .MIAMI, .MOSCOW, .OSAKA, .RIO, TOKYO ou .VEGAS.
